HOW TO LEARN AND ENJOY TRADITIONAL AMERICAN SKILLS

Back to Basics is focused on the revival of past traditions, craft and labour. This theme began with a book I received from my Grandparents estate, Reader’s Digest – “Back to Basics: How to Learn and Enjoy Traditional American Skills”. My interest in the social, labour, and material practices within the text and images took on an explorational process. I merged handmade objects with found and manufactured materials. Through each intuitive act of creation, the objects were stripped of their functions, but remained infused with a sense of sentimental value and nostalgic appreciation, both antiquated and contemporary in genesis.
